Colombian Bananas Make Their Debut in Saudi Arabia: A New Chapter for Colombian Exports

Colombia is widely recognized for its rich biodiversity, vibrant culture, and world-famous products, earning the affectionate title: the Country of Beauty. In a recent development marking another milestone for Colombian agribusiness, the first-ever shipment of Colombian bananas successfully arrived in Saudi Arabia. This achievement represents a significant stride in expanding the presence of Colombian produce in the Middle East and underscores the collaborative efforts powering Colombia’s international trade.

The groundbreaking shipment was the result of a joint initiative between Uniban and the PROCOLOMBIA Commercial Office for India and the MENA region. This venture demonstrates Colombia’s commitment to opening new opportunities for its high-quality products beyond traditional markets.

As Alfonso Soria, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Colombia and Director at Procolombia in India, shared:

“We are pleased to announce that, thanks to the joint efforts of Uniban and the PROCOLOMBIA Commercial Office for India and the MENA region, the first shipment of Colombian bananas to Saudi Arabia was successfully completed. This achievement is part of our ongoing efforts to open new opportunities for Colombian products in international markets and represents an important step in promoting Colombian bananas in the Middle East. We are confident that Saudi consumers will appreciate the quality, flavor, and freshness of our bananas. At PROCOLOMBIA, we celebrate every achievement that brings us closer to new destinations and reaffirms our commitment to showcasing the very best of Colombia, the Country of Beauty.”

This milestone is more than a commercial accomplishment—it signals an opening of doors for other Colombian goods in markets that are witnessing rapid growth and diversification in their sourcing. The initiative exemplifies PROCOLOMBIA’s dedication to promoting Colombian quality, fostering economic development, and building lasting bridges with new trading partners.

As Colombian bananas reach Saudi tables, they carry the essence of Colombian excellence, sustainability, and the vibrant reputation behind the hashtag #ColombiatheCountryofBeauty. This achievement not only elevates Colombia’s profile in the Middle Eastern market but also reaffirms the country’s standing as a global leader in premium agricultural exports.
