Stronger Connectivity for Stronger Economic Relations: Germany-UAE Business Council Advocates for Expanded Air Traffic Rights

The Germany-UAE Business Council (GUBC) has recently emphasized the pivotal role of enhanced air connectivity in deepening economic ties between Germany and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In a strategic move, the Council’s co-chairs, Günther H. Oettinger and Musabbeh Al Kaabi, addressed a formal letter to Nina Warken, Federal Minister for Special Affairs and Head of the Federal Chancellery, and Steffen Bilger, the Federal Minister of Transport, highlighting the importance of a market-driven expansion of air traffic rights for Emirati Airlines.

Recent bilateral working meetings have laid a valuable foundation for both countries to collaborate on practical solutions that accommodate the increasing demand and dynamic development of their bilateral economic relations. The Council insists that a forward-looking framework is essential to provide businesses with the planning certainty they need for sustainable and reliable direct flight connections.

Improved air links—particularly to Berlin and Stuttgart—are cited as critical for boosting business travel, attracting investment, and facilitating trade. The GUBC notes that an expansion of air traffic rights will not only create new opportunities but will also benefit both the German and Emirati economies.

“A market-driven expansion of air traffic rights would benefit both the German and Emirati economies,” said Günther H. Oettinger and Musabbeh Al Kaabi in their joint letter to the federal ministers.

With this initiative, the Germany-UAE Business Council renews its commitment to strengthening business relations, supporting aviation, and fostering economic growth between the two nations.
