Etihad Rail Advances National Preparedness with Passenger Train Trial between Al Ghuwaifat and Al Faya
In an exceptional step aimed at enhancing response capabilities and ensuring service continuity, Etihad Rail has operated a passenger train as part of its trial runs along the strategically important route connecting Al Ghuwaifat station—located on the Saudi border—with Al Faya station in Abu Dhabi. This innovative measure supports the ongoing availability of vital services and offers a safe, reliable transport alternative, aligning with dynamic risk assessment and evolving regional conditions.
This move forms part of wider efforts to boost preparedness and accelerate response efficiency in light of the present regional situation, achieved through direct collaboration with the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC).
The link between these two stations holds clear strategic significance by strengthening the geographical connection between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This advancement not only promotes the smooth flow of people and goods to and from key ports but also facilitates mobility for both nationals and residents. It enables authorities to activate alternative routes when necessary, all according to meticulously approved response plans.
Operating this route is part of a comprehensive range of operational and proactive measures planned jointly between the Centre and involved entities. These efforts guarantee the integration of roles and bolster logistical security, strictly adhering to business continuity and various risk management frameworks.
Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi highlighted, “the development and readiness of transport options are a key component of the comprehensive response ecosystem.” He underscored that all developments are steered under clear governance frameworks and smooth coordination across critical sectors, ensuring swift adaptation and optimal resource utilization. Furthermore, he stressed that transport sector flexibility is crucial for societal stability, as it bears directly on essential services continuity. He also affirmed that the Centre maintains constant monitoring and in-depth indicator analysis to increase Abu Dhabi’s preparedness and public confidence in response measures.
Eng. Mohammed Al Shehhi stated, “The operation of passenger services between Al Ghuwaifat and Al Faya as part of the trial demonstrates the readiness and flexibility of the UAE’s national railway network, which is designed to ensure the continuity of vital services in all circumstances. This initiative follows the directives of our wise leadership to strengthen the national transport ecosystem and enhance its strategic role in supporting society, under the ongoing guidance of H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail.” He further emphasized pride in supporting joint responses, saying, “We are proud to support the joint response efforts led by the relevant authorities, providing safe, reliable, and well-organised transport solutions at a time when the continuity of the national transport ecosystem is crucial. Our teams continue to work closely with government partners to maintain sustainable operations and deliver dependable transport services, enhancing traffic flow and supporting the readiness of the national transport ecosystem.”
The operation of this crucial route reflects a proactive approach rooted in advance planning and timely activation of alternative options. Such foresight strengthens infrastructure resilience and heightens the emirate’s capacity to respond to changing circumstances.
Abu Dhabi’s response framework not only encompasses preventive measures and coordinated fieldwork, but also relies on timely operational decisions. These actions are designed to boost service efficiency and maintain the uninterrupted movement of people and resources across different scenarios.
This recent step demonstrates how thorough risk assessments are converted into practical solutions that safeguard vital sectors. It further cements Abu Dhabi’s capacity to swiftly manage developments, preserve service continuity, and reinforce the emirate’s infrastructure readiness.
