UAE Emerges as Japan’s Leading Crude Oil Supplier in April 2025

TOKYO, 30th May, 2025 – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has solidified its position as Japan’s top crude oil supplier for April 2025, delivering a total of 34 million barrels. This figure represents a substantial 45.5 percent of Japan’s overall crude oil imports for the month, according to data from the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy under Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Japan’s total crude oil imports in April reached 74.77 million barrels, with Arab oil producers supplying the vast majority. Approximately 94.1 percent, or 70.40 million barrels, came from Arab nations, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Sudan.

Following closely behind the UAE, Saudi Arabia ranked second, providing 27.10 million barrels of crude oil, or 36.3 percent of Japan’s monthly import total. Qatar supplied 5.25 million barrels (7 percent), while Kuwait contributed 2.79 million barrels (3.7 percent). Shipments from Oman accounted for 1.2 percent, and Sudan covered 0.4 percent of the total imports.

The remainder of Japan’s crude imports in April came from various non-Arab sources, including the United States (3.9 percent), Ecuador (1.4 percent), Brunei (0.2 percent), and Oceania (0.1 percent).

The reliance on oil from Arab nations, led by the UAE and Saudi Arabia, underscores Japan’s ongoing strategic energy partnerships in the Middle East.
